Doggie Daycare Facilities - Thank You for the Donation!
We want to share with you some very exciting news!
We have been honoured by a donation of a large play structure for all the dogs to enjoy.
Felicity Hardwick and Michael Rockwell have kindly donated our new play structure in memory of Teemu, their Miniature Schnauzer.
Teemu was our very first daycare dog over ten years ago. Teemu left us back in February 2007 after a courageous battle with diabetes.
Some of his favorite activities while at daycare were the ramps and the tunnel in the yard so it seems appropriate to have this in his memory.
Thanks to Felicity and Michael for sharing Teemu with us - he added much fun and excitement to our days.
TEEMU
(April 1995 - February 2007)
Owners Felicity Hardwick and Micheal Rockwell
Mininiture Schnauzer
Age: Mature
Teemu was the founding member of Dog n’ Suds Doggie Daycare nine years ago, he enjoyed his time on the playground equipment and loved to sun himself on the doggie ramp in the yard. He leaves behind his little brother Rudy to take over for him. He will be sadly missed by all our staff especially Daria.
On Sunday Feb 17th 2008, a celebration of life was held at Dog n' Suds to remember little Teemu the miniature Schnauzer who filled our life with joy. The SPCA joined us to cut the ribbon on our new doggie play structure which was donated by Felicity Hardwick and Michael Rockwell in memory of their beloved dog Teemu. Everyone in attendance dropped off a donation for the SPCA and the dogs began to play. Thank you so much to Felicity and Michael for their generous donation.
Teemu’s Story
Teemu came to us through the Winnipeg SPCA. He did not have a great beginning, as his pregnant mother, a lovely little Schnauzer, Louise, was rescued from a puppy mill! Our groomer at the time had agreed to foster Louise, and told us about her and her new litter. We met Teemu when he was a week old , the runt of the litter, but the feistiest which is what attracted us to him. Teemu came to join us and our other little female Schnauzer, Candy, who was boss of the house. We knew that our new puppy would need to have lots of self-confidence to deal with her, and Teemu was perfectly suited to do this. Within a day he was leading Candy astray! He was a character from the first time he came home, and within weeks had found his way out of the fenced back yard, and led Candy out as well. Candy who had lived in the house for a year and never put her nose across the fence! Luckily our neighbours found them both, and they were returned home unscathed. Teemu’s wandering streak would continue until shortly before he died. He always managed to land on his feet though, and was never hurt during any of his escapades!
After Candy died in 1999, Teemu was lonely at home, and so we approached Daria at Dog n’ Suds about having him stay at her grooming salon a couple of times a week for company. Daria agreed, and so he became the founding member of the Dog n’ Suds Daycare which became the next addition to her services, and followed her to her present location on Wilgress Rd. At the age of 7 Teemu was diagnosed with diabetes, which resulted in twice daily shots of insulin. Unfortunately his diabetes was never well-controlled, and the vet warned us that he may not be around for too long. Of course he never counted on Teemu’s fighting spirit. He lost his eyesight over the next few years, but that never slowed him down, and he could still sniff a slice of ham from 3 blocks away! It was 5 years before Teemu decided he had had enough, and with the dignity he always showed, went to Dog Heaven where he's probably wandering around checking out all the special spots, and leading all the other dogs along with him.
